My body clock is out of whack…

March 8th, 2011

Good Morning (I’m too out of it to translate…)!

First of all, my body clock is all messed up. Right now it’s 4:13am in Munich and I’m wide awake.  I fell asleep just after 8:15pm and woke up at 2:30am… – will probably go back to sleep for a bit…

I spent yesterday afternoon wandering around downtown Munich – With it being Rosenmontag, it was a party atmosphere.  Later that evening, though, it was quiet on the Marienplatz (central square) – I think events had gone inside (based on what I saw on TV…)

Last night’s dinner was a Bratwurst from a street vendor – Mmmmmm! and a “Mezzo Mix” – half Coca-Cola/half Orange Drink (Fanta, I’m guessing) – it was OK – I’ll stick with my German Fanta, though…

Tschüß!

Guten Morgen!

The flight arrived in Munich about 45 minutes early – it was not the best sleep, but better than my last trip over where I couldn’t sleep a bit…   I took the S-Bahn (Schnell or Fast train) downtown, caught the bus and am at the hotel.  The hotel is an old “mansion” that has been converted into a hotel.  The room is clean, quiet, and I have a place to sleep tonight.

I’m off to wander around Munich for the day – as most museums are closed on Monday.  Tomorrow should  be interesting – I have to decide whether to go to Salzburg or stay in Munich: it’s Fasching, so I’m leaning toward Munich…

(If you don’t know what Fasching is – find out what tomorrow is in Galveston or New Orleans – just with a German flair…)

Tschüß!

One Leg Down…

March 7th, 2011

Greetings from Toronto Pearson International Airport – home of the steel and glass generic airport – I suspect I’ll see several of these along the way – but maybe I’ll be pleasantly suprised.

The flight from Houston was delayed 30 minutes due to a snow storm up here – nothing like coming out of the clouds to a white “floor” below.  Flight #1 was an Air Canada Jazz Canadair (Bombardier) Regional Jet (CRJ-705) – bigger than the RJs that UnitedContinental flies, but still small (I couldn’t stand fully upright in the aisleways and the restrooms made it “interesting” – no room to turn…).  Uneventful flight – hard to believe that I can be in Houston and 2 1/2 hours later I’m in Canada – then (after a break) only 8 hours to get to München!

Hopefully I will sleep on the plane after not getting much sleep last night due to a cat issue at home (she’s fine now – the 5:30am trip to the Vet ER wasn’t fun, though).

Seh’ Ihnen in Deutschland!

Tschüß!

Pictures to follow – I’m on an Air Canada terminal with no mobile upload capability…  Also, the times are listed in CET – Central European Time – thus it showing as being posted on March 7, even though it’s March 6 where I am right now.

If you want to reach me while I’m on the trip – e-mail me at

At Intergalactic Airport Houston

March 6th, 2011

I’m here, checked in, and waiting on a delayed plane from Toronto. I’ve already found the first thing I forgot – the cable to connect my phone to the computer (to use the phone as my internet connection – and my computer does not have bluetooth). Time to go shopping…

Countdown Time…

March 6th, 2011

12 hours to go, and everything is packed (well, almost everything – I can not find the cell phone charger for my Nokia handy…).  So rather than going to bed right now, I get to tear the house apart looking for the charger.

Clothes packed and ready!

Well, at least I can (attempt to) sleep on the plane – Toronto, here I come!

Sechzig Stunden, bis ich nach Deutschland fliegen

Gruß Gott!

In less than 2-1/2 days, I’m off to München (Munich), Salzburg, Berlin, London and Paris (leaving from Intergalactic Airport Houston, via Toronto).

Time permitting, I’ll be updating my activities and pictures while “on the road”.  The trip will include several Planes and Trains, but probably not too many Automobiles…  Highlights of the trip:

Munich and Southern Germany for 5 days, a night train to Berlin, 3 days in Berlin, an early morning flight to London to meet Mom, Dad, Tyra, Coop & KT, a day trip to Paris via the Chunnel and lots of sight seeing and picture taking along the way.

Check back over the next few weeks to see what I’ve been up to along the way.

Tschüß!
